In April 2024, I enrolled at the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology for my Graphic Design studies, so I decided to create this project in honor of the institution. This unofficial concept project is called Creative Crusaders. It is a streetwear-inspired apparel hoodie project that aims to bring a bold and modern visual presence to the students of the institution's School of Digital Technology department which are mostly composed of creatives in the digital realm.
SAIT - Creative Crusaders
Apparel and advertisement designs for a tech institution. Completed: 6/6/2024
About The Project
Inspired by the urban aura of Calgary, Alberta, where the institution is located, the other goal of this project was to create a collection of hoodie designs that reflect the aesthetic of the city's downtown while fitting the modern look of SAIT with hints of technical assets. The designs use a modern sans-serif typeface and incorporate many lines to represent the technical aspects of both the city and the school.
Keywords
URBAN, MODERN, TECHNICAL, and TYPE-HEAVY. Here are some of the keywords I kept in mind while making the project to remember the most important words relating to the designs to keep their purpose and look consistent. I had these embedded in my mind even before making the designs in Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop.
The Front Sides
The front sides of all the hoodies have a consistent design to evoke a sense of community, collectiveness, and uniformity. The only changes are the contents of the design, which vary for each program or course available at The School of Digital Technology. All creatives share one thing: they all have unique ways of creating (this was what I wanted to communicate)!
The Back Sides
The back of the hoodies is where the designs truly shine. Each layout is unique but maintains the same typeface and style, reinforcing the idea that "all creatives share one thing: their unique ways of creating." My inspirations include the clothing brand God is a Designer by Angel Acevedo, The New World Order FW19 Collection by Still Good, and the public library at SAIT, where I created most of this project. Why the library? Its organization and cleanliness, combined with the amazing surrounding urban art, fueled my creativity.
Advertisement Designs
For the advertisement designs to promote them on social media, I mostly stuck to the same style I was aiming for with the hoodies, but I also added grunge elements to fit the urban look I was going for. This helps with marketing to the target audience, which is the students of the School of Digital Technology at SAIT.
